Leaving the Flock
Having cut his teeth in the chaotic, fast paced world of punk and hardcore, Nic Fit has been part of writing songs with break neck speed and performing with reckless abandon. Being in a band means collective collaboration, however making music on your own provides an output that's wholly singular in concept and execution
Spirit Unwell is a project built from the soft decay of sound — tape loops, simple guitar riffs, and fragments of field recordings stitched together into slow-moving, immersive pieces. Rooted in warmth and imperfection, the project leans into saturation and blur, where melodies feel half-remembered and textures carry more weight than structure.
Using guitar as a primary voice, tones are stretched, looped, and degraded through tape players, allowing subtle variations and mechanical inconsistencies to shape each piece organically. Field recordings drift in and out. Distant voices, environmental noise, unplaceable space add a sense of lived-in atmosphere that feels both intimate and elusive.
The result is a hazy, glowing sound world: soft-edged, slightly unstable, and deeply human. Spirit Unwell isn’t about clarity or resolution, but about sitting inside the smear of sound. Where comfort and uncertainty quietly overlap.
